The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 gives you legal rights to request information held by Scottish public authorities. All you have to do is ask for the information and we will provide it within 20 working days.
We aim to be as open as possible but FoI allows us to hold back some types of information, such as personal information and information relating to national security. Where we hold back information we will always tell you why.
If we have taken longer than 20 working days to respond to your request or if you disagree with the reasons we have given for holding back information, you have the right to ask us to review our decision.
If you are unhappy with our review decision you can then appeal to the independent Scottish Information Commissioner. If the Commissioner finds that we should give you the information, he can use his enforcement powers to make sure that it happens.
